Experience:
From 1999 worked as a teaching assistant in the Department of History at Sochi State University of Tourism and Resort.
Since 2002, after receiving the degree of candidate of historical sciences, he is appointed assistant professor of the department of national history.
From 2006 appointed to the position of Head of the Department of National History.
From 2006 till 2012: the founder and head of the students’ scientific circle (the base of the scientific school was laid).
From 2006 till 2020: the founder and editor-in-chief of the Russian historical journal «Bylye Gody» (the journal is indexed in Scopus and Web of Science).
2008—2012, combined his pedagogical activity with administrative work, serving as Deputy Vice Rector for Research and Head of the Scientific Department.
In 2014, founded and headed International Network Center for Fundamental and Applied Research (head office in Sochi, Russian Federation), in spring 2018 year the center was re-registered in the USA (Washington, United States of America).

Research interests:
The history of the Caucasus of the XVIII — XX centuries, the Civil war in Circassia (1785−1864), the Caucasian war (1801−1864), the traditions in the Caucasus, the slavery in the Caucasus, the slave trade, the history of public education in the Russian Empire, the system of public education in different areas of the Russian Empire in the period before 1917.

Field expeditions:
2016—2019 A. Cherkasov took part in four Arctic expeditions as part of the Arctic Floating University program (2016 — the western coast of Novaya Zemlya; 2017 — Franz Josef Land; 2018 — the eastern and western coasts of Novaya Zemlya; 2019 — Spitsbergen).
In October 2018, participated in a field expedition in the highlands of Georgia (Shatili, Georgia). The result of the trip was scientific article.
Participation in research projects:
Based on a grant from the Russian Humanities Research Foundation, Mr. Cherkasov masterminded and produced a work entitled ‘Collaborationism in Krasnodar Krai during the Period of German Occupation (1942—1943)’. From 2012 to the present, the founder and general director of Academic Publishing House Researcher; in 2016 the total number of journals reached 53; in 2017, the publishing house was divided, 1 journal in Sochi, and 52 journals moved to Bratislava (Slovak Republic). The name of the company in Bratislava — Academic Publishing House Researcher s.r.o. Presently, out of 53 journals, 2 are indexed in Scopus and WoS (Bylye Gody and European Journal of Contemporary Education), 1 in Scopus (International Journal of Media and Information Literacy), 1 in WoS (Media Education (Mediaobrazovanie)), 3 journals in Chemical Abstracts Service — database of the American Chemical Society (European Journal of Medicine, European Journal of Molecular Biotechnology, European Reviews of Chemical Research). Among the publishing house’s journals there are highly specialized ones. For example, the english-language journal on the history of military propaganda (Propaganda in the World and Local Conflicts), journal of the history of slavery (Slavery: Theory and Practice) and etc. The publication of 7 pre-revolutionary journals was resumed (stopped publishing in 1917), namely: "Zhurnal ministerstva narodnogo prosveshcheniya", "Voennyi Sbornik", "Russkaya Starina", "Russkii arkhiv", "Vestnik politsii", "Voprosy filosofii i psikhologii" and "Zhurnal grazhdanskogo i ugolovnogo prava".
In 2013 created a full-text database OAJI (Open Academic Journals Index). Currently, more than 3.3 thousand journals from more than 124 countries are indexed.
In 2018 Eastern European Information Agency founded, its current purpose is to inform the world research and pedagogical community about the achievements in the research area about the history of Eastern Europe.
Management of dissertation researches:
A.A. Cherkasov has served as a thesis advisor for a total of three candidates. Under Mr. Cherkasov’s guidance, K.V. Taran defended his dissertation, ‘The Black Sea Governorate during the First Russian Revolution’, in 2011, I.A. Ermachkov did his, ‘Sochi during the Perestroika (1985—1991)’, in 2016, and L.G. Polyakova did hers, ‘The Black Sea Governorate during World War I’, in 2018.
