Museum. Archive. Library (MAL): April 2026

The month has come to an end, and we are ready to present the most interesting new acquisitions of the Museum. Archive. Library (MAL) for April 2026.

Museum: In March 2026, our museum acquired a Knights Templar sword dating to the 1870s. Its owner was Volney A. McCutchen (Dec. 9,1826 — Sep. 2,1900). During the Civil War, he served as a private in the Seventh Mounted Infantry of the Confederate Army. By 1879, he held the office of Generalissimo in Paducah Commandery No. 11 (Paducah, Kentucky) and was already a Past Commander. The sword bears two maker’s marks: Clauberg and Schuyler, Hartley & Graham, N.Y.

Archive: Among the most notable archival acquisitions are the minutes of Ogdensburgh Chapter No. 63, Royal Arch Masons (Ogdensburgh, New York), covering the period from the organization’s founding in 1818 through 1867.

Library: Among the recent additions to the library, the most noteworthy item is The American Masonic Register, and Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Magazine. This is one of the early American Masonic journals/almanacs of the early 19th century; it was published in New York in 1821.
