The results of the 5th International Competition

On February 14,2024, the 5th (annual) international scientific research competition “Slavery in the past and present” was announced. The founders, as in the last time (2020), were the East European Historical Society, the Cherkas Global University (Washington, USA), as well as Centre for Behaviour and Wellness Advocacy (Ghana, Africa).

The prize fund of the contest remained unchanged — $ 2,250.

Summing up the results of the competition was timed to December 2,2024 (this day is the international day for the abolition of slavery and has been celebrated since 1949). 

So, according to protocol, the works from the following countries were submitted to the competition: USA, Ukraine, Georgia and Russian Federation.

The commission for summing up the results of the competition selected the five best works, with a cash prize of $ 450 each. The following works were selected among the best:

— A.Yu. Peretyatko (USA). Russian Empire subjects in the Emirate of Bukhara and the failed visit of Sultan Seit-Ali Nur-Aliev for the purpose of their returning (1813);

— V.M. Zavhorodnia (Ukraine). Human Rights Abuses Under Diplomatic Protection: The Issue of Modern Slavery and Forced Labor;

— A.M. Mamadaliev (Russian Federation). Maikl Khamil'ton Dzheimson (1924—2004 years): Biographical Touches for the 100th Anniversary of His Birth;

— S.N. Gonta (Russian Federation). Comparative analysis of the trans-Atlantic and trans-Saharan slave trade;

— I. Koshkin (USA). June 19 — “Slave Liberation Day”: A Historical Essay on the 160th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery in the United States.
