Cherkas from Keret and Cherkas Global University
The journal “Gardarika” published an article about the first five generations of the Cherkasov family during the Muscovite Kingdom (1570—1725). It has been documented that the Cherkasovs descended from the Cossacks of the Zaporozhian Sich, who lived on the territory of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The first among them was a Zaporozhian Cossack named David (born about 1570). The second was a Cossack named Cherkas Davydov's son (born about 1590), who in the late 1620s arrived on the territory of the Muscovite Kingdom and settled with his family in the village of Keret. Recall that our university is named after Cherkas. Here is the link to the article.
